The following instructions are to help you with the configuration of Windows Live Mail 2011:

Unlike earlier versions of Windows there is no email client included with Windows 7, however one can be downloaded from Microsoft. To download Windows Live Mail: (if you have already downloaded Windows Live Mail click here)

  • When asked select "Run" and then select "Run" again on the next pop-up

  • Once the installer has finished downloading you will be asked if you want to "Install all of Windows Live Essentials (recommended)" or "Choose the programs you want to install". Click on "Choose the programs you want to install"

  • Uncheck all the options, and be sure to leave "Mail" selected
  • Click "Install" to continue
  • Windows Live Mail will then install which may take several minutes to complete
  • Once the installation is complete, click on the Start button then select "All Programs" then "Windows Live Mail"
  • To add your aski.ca account click on the "Accounts" tab at the top


  • Click the "Email" button

  • This launches a set up wizard.


  • Enter your aski.ca email address as well as your password
  • If you don't want to enter your password each time you check your mail select "Remember this Password"
  • Enter the name you wish to appear on your outgoing emails (Usually your full name) in the "Display Name for your sent messages:" box
  • Select "Manually configure server settings"
  • Click on "Next"


  • Your "Server type:" is a "POP" server
  • Enter "pop.aski.ca" for the "Server address:"
  • This server does not require SSL
  • Authenticate using: "Clear text"
  • Enter your entire email address including @aski.ca for the "Logon user name:"
  • Enter "mail.aski.ca" for the "Outgoing server information Server address"
  • Check the box beside "Requires authentication"
  • Click "Next"


  • Click on "Finish"
  • You are now done setting up your new email address!
